GOLDEN GATE

01Golden Gate

As the main entrance into Lights of the World, Golden Gate stands at 53 feet tall and spans over 100 feet with a beautiful kaleidoscope of colors. Golden Gate uses over 100,000 lights to create a stunning, Baroque castle-like display. However, before you step through these doors, take some time to observe the local influence interwoven in the entrance. Notice the horses on both sides, honoring the Wild Horse Pass, and the Gila River Indian Tribe “Man in the Maze” of I’itoi, the tribe’s symbolized belief as the creator of the beginning of time, this is placed in the center of the gate. Now, as you enter into this dream-like world, ready yourself for a time of fun and wonder!

DESERT CACTI

02Desert Cacti

As prickly as cacti can be, these Desert Cacti show a fun and party-like demeanor with their sombreros and cartoon expressions. Fun fact: going by their height of 8 feet, these cacti can grow to be over 100 years old and reach over 20 feet high!

GILA RIVER INDIAN CULTURE

03Gila River Indian Culture

As part of America’s history from the very beginning, this display honors the local Gila River Indian Tribe’s culture and history. At 20 feet tall, the archway represents a small image of the Gila River Indian Tribe’s many traditional designs. The surrounding olas kik (houses) are indicative of their ancestors’ non-nomadic lifestyle. Lastly, notice the circular displays propped up on the olas ki; these represent the traditional burden baskets used by females to carry wood and other items.

NIRVANA (PHOENIX)

04Nirvana (Phoenix)

This stunning phoenix looms at 39 feet. Fitting for this display’s name of “Nirvana”, the phoenix is a mythological Greek bird that is cyclically reborn from ashes. It is often a symbol of renewal and hope, as well as pride for the local citizens of Phoenix, Arizona!

These 12 feet tall pillars evoke a dreamy and beautiful atmosphere with their colors and warm incandescence.

LEANING TOWER OF PISA

79Meteor across the sky

This 26 foot tall tower is famous for the unintended tilt in its structure. The soft construction ground couldn’t properly support its weight, resulting in the tilt we see now. In 1990, it leaned at 5.5 degrees; however, restoration has reversed this lean. Today, the tower leans at about 3.99 degrees, leaving the top of the tower displaced from the center by almost 13 feet.
